A blog about the exciting life of a computer scientist…
Forgive me for being blunt, but – are you bonkers?
You need a working spam filter, that’s it! Getting new email addresses because of spam is so 1990s!
if you were on a mac I’d recommend SpamSieve… you are running Thunderbird, doesn’t that already come with pretty good spam filtering? You might be able to pimp it with http://www.spamato.net/. If that doesn’t work, channel your mail through gmail (IMAP), which gives you a) all your email on the go, b) very good spam filtering as well.
Cheers

It isn’t my mail address
. Just emptied the mailbox of a friend using fetchmail and a local POP server.
. Finally I ended up using Outlook (which uses signature based filters) and it did a pretty good job identifying about 62000 of the messages as spam.

Spamfilter in Thunderbird: not really usable when untrained…
About 1 out of 2000 mails is not spam for this address; with this ratio a new mail address is easier than hoping that the spam filter will find THE ham message out of 2000 I guess…
