Games Convention 2008

Games Convention – the world largest video games event in Leipzig, Germany. That’s where some friends and I spent last Friday. Waking up at 4.30am, driving for 4 hours, getting tickets and then entering the world of video games. I had no idea what to expect since I haven’t played an up-to-date PC game within the last 5 years or so. So after a day of waiting in lines to test the newest and best PC games ever for a couple of minutes I know a bit more about the current state of the art. It’s all nice to see but no game was amazing enough to persuadeĀ  me buying a new computer for gaming ;-) .

Besides playing computer games we also had the opportunity to drive quads; one company had a quad track with small hills and we could drive for a couple of minutes. It’s pretty easy and it’s really fun. The quads had automatic transmission so all you had to do is accelerate and brake :-) . Unfortunately jumps were not allowed. Here are some pictures from the games convention:

Finally I want to point to two funny articles I’ve discovered recently. Number one: some people in Germany got arrested for tuning an office chair and driving it without license.

Number two is a study about beer and publications. Unfortunately beer seems to decrease the abiltiy to publish papers (or failing to publish papers motivates drinking beer). That’s sad :-( . But since I finish school next year and don’t plan on publishing a paper I can bear it. Bad luck for all the PhD students though.

Letter from Boulder & Web2.0 Reloaded

Last Tuesday I finally received my official diploma from CU. So now, more than three month after the official graduation ceremony, all the paperwork is done and I hold a degree in Computer Science *yeah* :-) . If you wonder how such a diploma looks like, here is a picture:

It’s somehow funny to read :-) .

The next news: I’ve extended my blog with a Link-Page. I reactivated my del.icio.us account (didn’t use it for 2 years or so) to store my bookmarks and added a WordPress page which shows a del.icio.us tag cloud and a list of my links.

Last but not least I want to mention a new kind of search machine I’ve discovered recently. It’s called Oamos and it generates an interesting multimedia presentation from a google-like query. This is the result for the words “Boulder Colorado USA”. Have fun trying your own words!

The Past and News about Now

Today’s edition of Ehrensenf presented a nice homepage where you can upload a picture and it gets inserted into a yearbook. The picture is manipulated and you can see yourself with haircuts and clothes from the 1950s up to the 1990s. The homepage is http://www.yearbookyourself.com/ and some of the results for a picture of mine are shown in the following gallery:

Besides wasting my time while playing around in the Internet I try to study for my very last exam which is at the beginning of September – don’t know an exact date yet. The topic is Social Psychology and I’m not really happy with the material provided for preparation, but it’s too late anyway. So I’ll just make the best out of it :) .
