Maybe time to think about getting a new eMail address?!?

Another intersting study which shows what women prefer

Surfing in the Internet is good for the brain. These research findings make me happy since I don’t have to have a guilty conscience for being online all day instead of reading a book
.
Last Monday I had my very last exam (at least for my degree in Computer Science at Darmstadt). It was an oral exam in Social Psychology and it went pretty well
. So now there is only one thing left before I can graduate – I have to write my final thesis which takes about 6 months. Now I try to find a place and topic for the thesis and hopefully I can start working on it within the next weeks. It’s a strange feeling knowing that it’s only some more months of being a student before starting to work and not knowing any details yet. So basically it is a big question mark how my life will look like next summer, or better: a big adventure
.
During the last week I’ve helped several friends solving computer problems or setting up a new computer. It were 2 new laptops, 1 partly destroyed Windows installation and 1 fully destroyed Windows installation. All computers are up and running now (hopefully for a very long time without problems) and I think 4 computers in one week is my personal record
.
What else is worth mentioning: The LHC is up and running, too, and the universe still exists. I think the whole LHC-leads-to-apocalypse-thing is a massive public relation campaign which motivates people to catch up on what is happening in the LHC. I have no clue about what is happening there in detail but I like the funny stuff in the Internet concerning this topic. My favorites are the Large Hadron Rap and the following cartoon:
Next week I’ll be in Berlin for some days with friends so most likely my next post here will be about this trip and contain some nice pictures.
Games Convention – the world largest video games event in Leipzig, Germany. That’s where some friends and I spent last Friday. Waking up at 4.30am, driving for 4 hours, getting tickets and then entering the world of video games. I had no idea what to expect since I haven’t played an up-to-date PC game within the last 5 years or so. So after a day of waiting in lines to test the newest and best PC games ever for a couple of minutes I know a bit more about the current state of the art. It’s all nice to see but no game was amazing enough to persuade me buying a new computer for gaming
.
Besides playing computer games we also had the opportunity to drive quads; one company had a quad track with small hills and we could drive for a couple of minutes. It’s pretty easy and it’s really fun. The quads had automatic transmission so all you had to do is accelerate and brake
. Unfortunately jumps were not allowed. Here are some pictures from the games convention:
Finally I want to point to two funny articles I’ve discovered recently. Number one: some people in Germany got arrested for tuning an office chair and driving it without license.
Number two is a study about beer and publications. Unfortunately beer seems to decrease the abiltiy to publish papers (or failing to publish papers motivates drinking beer). That’s sad
. But since I finish school next year and don’t plan on publishing a paper I can bear it. Bad luck for all the PhD students though.
